    Geodiversity

May I make a plea for including geodiversity objectives alongside biodiversity in quarry restoration? These two objectives very often complement each other.

    Relevant information resources include:

    • ‘Geodiversity and the Minerals Industry’ (English Nature, Quarry Products Association, Silica and Moulding Sands Association; 2003). Available as a PDF download from Natural England website.
    • ‘Good Quarry’ – a joint project of the University of Leeds and the Mineral Industry Research Organisation, aimed at all who have an interest in the environment and quarrying. See http://www.goodquarry.com/
    • ‘Minerals and Nature’ – see the website of the Minerals & Nature Conservation Forum: http://www.mineralsandnature.org.uk/
    • ‘Geological conservation benefits for biodiversity ENRR 561’ by R N Humphries and L Donnelly (English Nature Research Report No. 561; 2004). Available as a PDF download from Natural England website.
    • ‘Linking Geology and Biodiversity’ by R Cottle (English Nature Research Report No. 562; 2004) – investigates the strong ties between geology and biodiversity. Available as a PDF download from Natural England website.

This information could be posted in your Resources section.

    Thanks Tim

This is a fantastic selection of guidance material. We will work to add these to our resources pages. Very keen to learn more about examples of sites where biodiversity and geodiversity issues have been considered together in practice - perhaps you could suggest some sites as potential case studies?

     Grateful for your contribution.
